On April 1, 2025, the China Meteorological Service Association officially announced the winners of the 2024 Science and Technology Awards. Ninecosmos stood out among numerous national research institutions and enterprises with its project "AI-Based Real-Time Optimization System for Transoceanic Intelligent Meteorological Routes", winning the first prize in meteorological technology invention. This is the only science and technology award this year led entirely by an enterprise, marking a national level recognition of Ninecosmos innovative strength in the field of meteorological science and technology.

Breaking Boundaries: Reconstructing the "Meteorological Lifeline" of Global Shipping with AI

The shipping industry is often referred to as "relying on the weather for sustenance", where extreme weather and complex sea conditions remain the greatest challenges for transoceanic transportation. Ninecosmos R&D team has deeply engaged in the integration of meteorology and shipping, innovatively combining AI algorithms, satellite remote sensing, and numerical forecasting to construct an intelligent meteorological navigation system covering the Arctic as well as the "Belt and Road" routes. Its FleetEye platform provides full-cycle escort services for vessels through real-time dynamic tracking, intelligent route planning, and risk assessment.

This system integrates multi-source data, including satellite remote sensing, buoy monitoring, and ship AIS. The system relies on the distributed computing cluster of the Wuxi National Supercomputing Center to achieve real-time processing of millions of meteorological data per second. By combining the AI-GOMS large model, the prediction accuracy of sea ice movement has been remarkably improved to a forecast (72 h) error less than 5 nautical miles, while typhoon path prediction accuracy enhanced by 32% compared to traditional models.

Through a "data + knowledge" dual-driven model, Ninecosmos has transformed decades of navigational experience from captains into a database of over 4,000 routes. The database deeply integrates with the logical reasoning capabilities of the DeepSeek large language model, and assists commercial vessels on the China-Russia Arctic route in planning optimal paths to avoid dense ice zones, shortening travel distances by up to 30% (about 1,200 nautical miles), reducing single-vessel fuel costs by 15%, and successfully avoiding four suspension risks due to sudden ice conditions. The system has served 37 commercial vessels, achieving 100% accident-free navigation, and truly realizing the goal of “letting data outpace the weather, using intelligence to ensure safety.”
